Name: Gantu
Age: Early 40s
Sex: M
Species/Planet of Origin: Whale Alien, technical name unknown / Eighth planet of the Keplok system
Personality: A product of his upbringing, Gantu is, first and foremost, a militant personality with his own very strict moral code. Loyal to his duty above all else, the captain despises anything that he sees as an abomination, and his first impulse is often to respond to such with violence. As such, he is easily provoked, especially since he has no tolerance for being mocked. He holds long grudges against those who have shown him up, and can come across as an arrogant and selfish individual. It should be known, however, that Gantu is not completely heartless, and has been known to show genuine affection; particularly obvious when he was under Amnesio’s power.
Home: Turo
Occupation: Captain of the Galactic Armada
Past: A lonely child; Gantu’s father was a very authoritarian figure whose intent seemed to be to mould the youngster in his own image. As such, Gantu had no real friends when he was a child, was often shunned by his peers, and eventually discarded the notion of friendship altogether. The whale-faced alien had always had an interest in the Galactic Armada and the art of space warfare; and it was at this point that young Gantu decided that was what he wanted to do with his life. His father approved, so all of the adolescent’s energy was soon being directed into preparing himself for this. While somewhat sidetracked during high school by a budding romance with a girl in his class named Cynthia, Gantu would eventually chose to join the Galactic Armada instead of marrying her.
In the Armada, Gantu was proud of his position. He demonstrated great competence, and quickly gained prestige, in time rising to the rank of captain. It was Gantu who was responsible for the arrest of idiot scientist Jumba Jookiba and the capture of his (presumably failed) Experiment 621. He was also present for Jumba’s trial, and was a strong advocate for destroying the newly-revealed Experiment 626 outright; though he was overruled by the Grand Councilwoman, reigning head of the Galactic Alliance, Gantu was nonetheless pleased to be assigned the task of banishing 626 to exile on a desert asteroid. When the trog escaped, however, the captain was disgraced; and his later failure to redeem himself by recapturing the experiment led to his discharge from the military.
Drifting now that he was separated from his life’s ambition, Gantu’s thoughts turned, primarily, to revenge. When word reached him that a certain Dr Jacques von Hamsterviel was seeking an employee to kidnap Jumba, who was now leaving peacefully in exile on Earth, Gantu jumped at the opportunity to take his revenge. Unfortunately for the whale-faced alien, things didn’t go as planned; while Hamsterviel’s plan to ransom Jumba for the other 324 experiment pods went over as intended, Experiment 626’s interference led to the experiments being scattered all over Hawaii, Hamsterviel jailed, and Gantu’s stuck on Kuaui with Experiment 625, his ship disabled.
By this point, Gantu reluctantly set aside both his morals and his belief that the experiments were abominations. With no way off Earth, and struggling to make ends meet enough to have a future, the former captain resigned himself to Hamsterviel’s employ long-term, trying to gather up the rest of the trogs; directly arrayed against Experiment 626 (now called Stitch) and the little Earth girl who he had befriended, who were similarly trying to track down the other experiments in order to find them a ‘one true place’ to belong. 626 and Lilo succeeded many more times than Gantu over the course of the three years; and eventually, even released the seventeen experiments that he had managed to bring in, leaving Gantu with only the useless Experiment 625. Disgraced a second time, Gantu’s only possible response was desperate and unthinkable; breaking into the prison to bust out Hamsterviel. After threatening the newly-reinstated Jumba to create an even more perfect experiment and instating Hamsterviel as new ruler of the galaxy, Gantu found himself fired a second time when Leroy proved himself superior in Hamsterviel's eyes by rounding up all the experiments in a single 24 Earth hours.
Now with no hope for his future at all, Gantu saw no other prospect than to throw his lot in with Lilo. Breaking her and Experiment 625 out of prison, Gantu joined them and the rest of the Ohana in the battle at the Aloha Palooza stadium. While not directly involved in the fight – after being directly against the experiments for so long, Lilo thought it was best he not be in the thick of the fighting, lest the ‘cousins’ mistake him for an enemy – the big alien was able to do his small bit in disabling the Leroy army; and for his change of heart and his part in rectifying his mistakes and in bringing Hamsterviel to justice, Gantu was reinstated as Captain, with 625 as his galley officer.
His current assignment, however, has led Gantu back to Earth. It turned out that, after years of being imprisoned and studied, Experiment 621 – the first one Gantu had ever caught – had broken out of his cell and fled. As the only experiment not rehabilitated by Lilo, 621’s escape presented a massive threat to galactic security; and, given his experience with the breed as a whole, Gantu was tasked with recapturing the creature before he could cause any harm.
